Classification of pumps

What are the three types of pumps? Classification of Pumps. Generally Pumps classification done on the basis of its mechanical configuration and their working principle. The positive displacement pump can be classified as: Reciprocating pumps - piston , plunger and diaphragm.

These are used in different kinds of buildings to make simpler the movement of liquid materials. Pumps help different types in which the fluid flow happens differently.

The types of Fluid flow in the pumps are as follows 1. Centrifugal pumps can be classified based on the manner in which fluid flows through the pump. The manner in which fluid flows through the pump is determined by the design of the pump casing and the impeller. The three types of flow through a centrifugal pump are radial flow, axial flow, and mixed flow. The most basic classification criterion for differentiating the pumps , whether it is for purpose of analysis or for commercial purpose, is the fluid flow pattern.

This type of pump is one of the most common in use today. Like other pump designs, it uses an impeller, which is a rotating blade to generate suction which then moves fluid through pipes. The rotating impeller creates what is known as centrifugal force, giving this pump design its name.

A positive displacement pump can be further classified according to the mechanism used to move the fluid: Rotary-type positive displacement: internal gear, screw, shuttle block,.

Reciprocating-type positive displacement: piston pumps , plunger pumps or diaphragm pumps. How Centrifugal Pumps are classified 1. Axial flow pump provides low head but large quantity of. Pumps in which the fluid enters at the centre of impeller and. Success in water projects depends on the selection of reliable pumps , so do read this.

CLASSIFICATION OF PUMPS. Pumps aboard ship outnumber all other auxiliary machinery units. They include such types as centrifugal, rotary, and jet pumps. In the following section we discuss these different pumps and their application to the engineering plant.

There are so many designs and niches that identifying the pump which will meet these three needs can be confusing. To simplify things when trying to select your pump , there are two types of pump which work in very different ways and broadly encapsulate most pump designs. While gas-displacement vacuum pumps can be used without limitation, gas-binding vacuum pumps have a limited gas absorption capacity and must be regenerated at certain process-dependent intervals.

General name for pumps with one or more impellers. Many types and configurations for different applications. See below for specific centrifugal pump types. Casing is volute or diffuser type.

Normally electric motor driven, but other drive types available. All sorts of liquids can be pumps with centrifugal pumps. Multi-stage: If two or more single stage pumps connect in series or all the impellers combine in a single casing, than this will called multistage pump.

Types of Centrifugal Pumps w. The term positive displacement pump is quite descriptive, because such pumps are designed to displace a more or less fixed volume of fluid during each cycle of operation. We will also learn how is the working of screw pump different from that of other types of pumps. Positive Displacement Pumps. Working of Gear, Vane or Lobe Pump Though the construction, shape and design of gear, vane and globe pumps are a bit different , they fall under the same category of rotary pumps.

Pump can be classified into two categories: 1. Non-positive displacement pumps.
