Summary of the story of my life

How do you tell the story of Your Life? What was Helen Kellers goal? She spent some time studying at the Perkins Institute for the Blin and quickly befriended the other blind girls who were her age. They spent a vacation at Brewster in Cape Co where Helen experienced the ocean for the first time.


Following this, they spent nearly every winter up north.

Most readers will be familiar with parts of Keller’s story. The Story of My Life is the autobiography of Helen Keller , written when she was enrolled at Radcliffe College in her early twenties. It is a moving story of the education of a child with the extreme handicap of being deaf and blind. The book begins with a rather vague description of young Helen’s earliest memories , before she became deaf and blind at the age of nineteen months, but most of it narrates her teaching by Anne Sullivan of the Perkins Institute for the Blind.


On her father’s side, she is descended from Swiss immigrants, and she notes that one of her Swiss ancestors was the very first teacher of the deaf in Zurich, Switzerlan. I chose this book because it was very interesting to read about how her education developed throughout her life , It was also fascinating to know how she learned to understand what people were saying because she wrote how sometimes she. Helen was no longer restless and excitable, and did not require the attention of everyone on the train to keep her amused.

She views her life in two parts: the first part is before Miss Sullivan arrived and the second is all the time after. Miss Sullivan began her lessons by giving Helen a doll and spelling the word d-o-l-l into her hand with her fingers. During the Civil War, Keller’s father, Arthur H. Keller had been a captain in the Confederate Army. Time passed by and it was autumn when Helen returned to her Southern home. Her heart was full of happy memories of the days spent in the North.


Her life there was as full of motion as little insects which crowd a whole existence into one brief day.
